Run out of credits? Top up, don't upgrade.
Every plan includes 1,000 AI credits per month — enough for ~50–100 AI-drafted documents depending on length and complexity. One credit per AI action. Failed generations are auto-refunded.
If you hit the cap before month-end, top-up packs let you keep working without bumping to a higher plan you don't need. Credit packs never expire.
⸺ Each AI action = 1 credit · Failed generations refund automatically
The pricing page tells you what others hide.
Most legal-tech companies have the same kinds of plans we do. The difference is what they say about them — and what they leave out.
- Pricing on the homepage. Every plan price is visible from the first click. No "see plans" buttons that lead to a calculator.
- Trial price displayed alongside what it converts to. "$1 for 7 days, then $29/month" — same visual weight, same line.
- 48-hour reminder before any auto-charge. Email arrives in your inbox before your card is touched.
- 2-click cancel via Stripe. Account → Manage billing → Stripe portal → Cancel. No retention specialists, no "wait, here's a discount."
- Goodwill refunds for accidents. Auto-charged and didn't realize? Email us in 14 days, we make it right.
- Single-document option exists. If you only need one document, $49 is the price. We don't make you sign up for a subscription.
- Pricing buried. Hidden behind "see plans" or "get started" buttons that require email entry first.
- Trial conversion in microcopy. The "free trial" offer is huge; the "then $39.99/month" is in 8-pt gray text.
- No reminder before auto-charge. First you hear about the conversion is on your bank statement.
- Cancellation is a labyrinth. Phone calls, retention specialists, "are you sure?" pages, "tell us why you're leaving" forms.
- "All sales are final." Refunds require a small claims court threat.
- Subscription-only model. Need one document? Sign up for a year. Forget to cancel? That's $480.
Pricing FAQ.
What does the $1 trial really mean? Will I be auto-charged?
Yes — the $1 trial automatically converts to $29/month after 7 days unless you cancel. We're being honest about this because most companies aren't.
What's different about ours: we email you 48 hours before the charge happens. You see the reminder, you decide. Cancellation takes 2 clicks via Stripe — no phone call, no retention agent, no “are you sure” gauntlet. Cancel and you keep access until the trial ends.
If you got auto-charged and didn't realize the trial would convert, email hello@docsgenie.net within 14 days and we'll refund you. Goodwill, not because we have to.
What's the difference between $29/month and $120/year? Why is yearly so much cheaper?
Same product, different commitment. $29/month × 12 = $348/year. Annual is $120 — that's a $228 savings, or roughly $10/month equivalent.
Why so much cheaper? Annual subscribers don't churn as often, which means we spend less on payment processing fees, support for cancellations, and re-acquisition costs. We pass that savings back. Most legal-tech companies offer maybe a 20% annual discount; we offer 65% because we'd rather have committed users than higher per-user revenue.
If you're not sure yet, start monthly. You can switch to annual any time inside Stripe. Switching mid-month prorates the difference.
I only need one document. Do I really have to sign up for a subscription?
No. Pick the $49 Single Document option. Pay once, get one document, no card kept on file, no recurring charge, ever. You get 30 days to edit and re-download it.
For comparison: most competitors only sell subscriptions. They'll charge you $40/month and dare you to cancel. We made the one-document option exist specifically because that's what you need sometimes.
How exactly do I cancel my subscription?
Two clicks.
(1) Sign in to your DocsGenie account → click “Manage billing.” (2) The Stripe customer portal opens → click “Cancel plan.” Done. No retention specialist, no “wait, here's a discount” page, no “tell us why” form. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your paid period — you keep access until then.
If you can't sign in for any reason, email hello@docsgenie.net with [Billing] in the subject and we'll cancel manually within 24 hours.
Are AI credits used for templates too, or just AI Draft?
Templates don't use credits at all. Generate as many template-based documents as you want — fully unlimited on any subscription plan.
Credits are only consumed by AI Draft (custom AI-written documents) and AI chat editing (asking the AI to revise specific parts of a document). One credit per AI action. Failed generations are automatically refunded.
If you mostly use templates, your 1,000 monthly credits will go a long way. Power AI users sometimes need top-ups — that's what credit packs are for, no need to upgrade your plan.
What's your refund policy?
Honest answer: our standard policy is no refunds on subscription charges. That's because the right time to decide whether to keep paying is during the trial, not after a month of access.
That said: if you got auto-charged accidentally and didn't realize — say, you forgot the trial would convert, or you missed the reminder email — email us within 14 days and we'll refund you. Goodwill, no questions, no shame. We'd rather you not be a customer than be an unhappy one.
Single Document purchases ($49): no refunds, but if the document doesn't work as expected, email us and we'll fix it or generate a replacement.
Can I switch plans? Upgrade, downgrade, monthly to yearly?
Yes, anytime, both directions. Manage it in your Stripe customer portal under “Manage billing.” Switching from monthly to yearly applies the new price immediately and prorates the difference. Switching the other direction takes effect at the end of your current paid period.
If you're going from Single Document to a subscription, that doesn't actually require switching — just sign up for whichever plan you want, your existing single document stays accessible.
What payment methods do you accept?
All major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB), plus Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Link, processed through Stripe. We never see or store your full card number — Stripe handles all of that on PCI-compliant infrastructure.
For invoicing, ACH, or wire transfer (typical for larger purchases), email hello@docsgenie.net.
Is there a Teams or business plan?
Not yet. Teams is on our public roadmap and we'll build it when there's enough demand. If your business needs multi-seat access, SSO, or a custom rollout, email hello@docsgenie.net with [Partner] in the subject — we'll set up a call.
For now, smaller teams (under 5 people) often share a single yearly subscription, which is allowed under our terms as long as it's a small group with a shared business purpose.
